If you find yourself wandering the charming cobblestone streets of Salamanca, a visit to El Gafas Rua 28 is an absolute must. Nestled at Rúa Mayor, 28, this delightful café not only serves up a feast for your taste buds but also provides a vibrant atmosphere that invites you to linger longer than planned.

El Gafas is renowned for its authentic Spanish cuisine, particularly its scrumptious mixed paella. Despite some differing opinions on pricing—one customer felt that the paella at €18.20 was a tad high compared to meals elsewhere in Spain—the flavors tell a different story. Diners rave about the tender squid that practically melts in your mouth, paired flawlessly with expertly cooked rice that brings the essence of the sea and land to your plate. Adding to the dining experience is their sangria, hailed as the best in town, perfectly blended and refreshing, making it a necessary companion to your meal.

The café boasts a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, made even more inviting by the personable staff. Maria, a standout member of the team, is frequently mentioned in reviews for her excellent English and attentive service, ensuring that even those with limited Spanish can feel right at home. One customer, part of a traveling choir, shared that they visited El Gafas twice during their stay, each time finding the food delicious and the staff friendly. “If I ever visit here again, I certainly would stop,” they declared, a testament to the café’s charm and quality.

For those seeking a lovely ambiance, consider dining al fresco. Picture yourself seated outside, soaking in the views down the bustling street, sharing stories with friends over a jug of that delightful sangria. The café's atmosphere is alive with the sounds and sights of Salamanca, making your culinary experience feel even more special.

Whether you're a local or a traveler, El Gafas Rua 28 offers an authentic taste of Spanish dining that will leave you with lasting memories. This café is not just a place to eat; it's a destination where flavors, friendships, and culture intersect beautifully.

That mixed paella was not worth 18.20. I've been getting meals for 12/13 euros in other cities so this came as a surprise. I guess Salamanca is a bit more expensive than other cities.

Was visiting Salamanca with our choir Sweet Charity Choir as we were performing in Salamanca & Zamora. Stopped on both occasions when visiting the city. I found all the staff very friendly & attentive & Maria spoke very good English especially as I only know a little Spanish. I found Both the meals I had were very enjoyable & no complaints from me. If I ever visit here again I certainly would stop there for a bite to eat.

Delicious paella and the best sangria in town! Thank you to Maria (who spoke great English) and her colleagues who were so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!

Whilst in Salamanca, we had lunch at El Gafas. We sat outside with great views down the street. The waitress, Maria, was really friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. I had the mixed Paella and it was very tasty. The squid was so tender that it melted in the mouth. My party shared a jug of delicious Sangria. Maria asked us about our visit to Salamanca, and when we told heard that we were with Sweet Charity Choir and had sung on the Cathedral steps at Patio Chico as part of the Salamanca City of Culture programme, she said she had heard us sing! A waiter and the chef came and said hello to us and had a photo taken with us. I highly recommend this great restaurant and its friendly staff. Thank you for a great lunch and for making us feel so welcome.
